BUSY BEE LICENSED FAMILY CHILD CARE

Fire Drill & Emergency Procedures

Listed below are the steps I take when we practice our emergency evacuation procedures.
Fire Drills & Evacuation of Building:

- I conduct a fire drill once every month.

- I use the specific noise of the smoke alarm to attract the children's attention.

- I then collect the emergency information cards along with the first aid kit and escort the children from the building in a calm, safe manner.

- I have posted a diagram of exit paths from my facility to the location of our meeting place, as well as 2 exits from each room (i.e.: window & door)

- Our designated meeting place outside of the building is the telephone pole, which is located at the front gate.

- After a head count, we proceed to walk to Billy & Willy's house next door (279 - 67th St) and phone the fire department ( 9-1-1) and all the parents.

Earthquake Drills:

- I conduct an earthquake drill once every month (separately from the fire drill).

- We review that no one is to evacuate the building unless they are in immediate danger.

- We practice taking cover (under tables, bracing ourselves in doorways).

- We practice covering our heads and faces while in the crouch position and always face away from any windows.

- We review that we will wait ten minutes for any aftershocks before attempting to evacuate the building.

- I will review how to shut off the gas lines, electricity, water and furnace.
